Materials Needed:
  • Paintstiks by Cedar Canyon Textiles, Inc.
  • Cardstock
  • Glue stick adhesive
  • Beads and craft wire

Instructions:
  1. Cut a piece of gold card stock to 11 x 7.   Fold to 5 1/2 x 7 for card.

  2. Stencil flower on weathered-look card stock using Alazarin Crimson
paintstik color. Stencil for sample card is from Birds and a Bloom,
    by Laura Murray Designs.

  3. Allow paintstik color to dry. Color will be dry to the touch on paper
in about 30 minutes, and should be completely dry in 24 hours.

  4. Tear stenciled paper to approximately 3 1/4 x 5.

  5. Using a stencil brush, shade "white" edges of cardstock using
Iridescent Copper paintstik color.   Set aside to dry.

  6. Tear rust card stock to approximately 3 3/4 x 5 1/2. It should be
just a little bit larger than the stenciled card stock.

  7. Tear navy blue card stock to 2 3/4 x 6 1/4.
  8. Layer navy, rust, and painted card stock on gold card. Attach with
glue stick or your favorite adhesive.

  9. Tear 5 squares of gold card stock, about 3/4" square.   Tear 5 squares of rust card stock, about 1/2" square.

  10. Use glue stick to attach rust squares to gold squares.

  11. String metallic bugle beads on copper beading wire. Wrap wire around
card stock squares, twisting wire in the back after 3-5 wraps. Trim
    wire ends.

  12. Use small foam double-stick squares to attach embellished squares to
card.First some Basic Paintstik Instructions for Stenciling on Paper.

Some stenciling tips:

  1. Shiva Paintstiks are "self-sealing," which means that a protective
film forms over the surface of the paintstik when it is not in use.

  2. To remove the film, you can peel it away with a paper towel, rub it
gently on a rough surface, or carefully pare it away with a knife.

  3. Make sure paint peelings go in the garbage, not on the carpet.

  4. Paintstik colors are permanent once they are dry. Wear old clothes or
use an apron to prevent accidental "enhancements" to your wardrobe.

  5. For clean stenciled images, apply paintstik color with a stencil
brush rather than using the paintstik directly on your project.

  6. Rub the paintstik color on a separate "palette" surface, such as a
    piece of freezer paper.

  7. Load the paint onto a stencil brush. Place your stencil on top of your card stock, and apply the paint through
the openings in the stencil. It may work better to use a circular
"scrubbing" motion than an up-and-down stippling motion. Add multiple
layers of paint to get a solid image.

  8. Paintstik color will be dry to the touch in about 30-60 minutes when
stenciled on paper. It should be completely dry in 24 hours.

  9. There are no special storage requirements for paintstik colors. The
protective film will automatically re-form over the paints within 24
hours. This film keeps the paints from drying out and give them a very
    long shelf life.
