Reusable Pages

One way to make a lot of pages in a short amount of time is to use templates that you create yourself.
(These instructions are for Photoshop Elements 6.0. In version 5 you'll find the frames in the Artwork and Effects palette.)

Instructions:
  1. Create a new document the size and resolution you want (File > New > Blank File).
  2. Click on the Create a new layer icon at the top of the Layers palette.
  3. Click on the "Create" Tab above the Palette Bin on the right.
  4. Click on the Artwork button just below the "Create" tab.
  5. Choose "By Type" in the menu on the left and choose "Frames" from the menu on the right.
  6. Go through the frames and choose a style for your template.
  7. Click on the frame you want and drag it onto your page.
  8. If you need to resize or reposition the frame, get the Move tool and make sure "Show Bounding Box" is selected in the Options Bar.
  9. Click and drag a corner handle to resize the frame.
  10. Click inside the frame and drag to move it to a different location on your page.
  11. Click on the green check mark next to the bounding box to accept the changes.
  12. Continue to add frames until you have your page set up exactly as you want it.
  13. Choose File > Save As. Save as a PSD (Photoshop Document) file.

Now you have a template you can use over an over:

  1. Open the template (File > Open).
  2. Open the photos you want to use.
  3. Click on a photo and drag it into one of the frames.
  4. Move the slider at the top to resize your photo inside the frame.
  5. To rotate the photo, click on the round handle at the bottom of the outline and drag left or right.
  6. To accept the changes, click on the green check mark on the frame.
  7. If you want to resize your photo, but you don't see a zoom slider at the top, right click on the photo and choose "Position Photo in Frame" from the pop up menu.

You can add background paper and embellishments to complete a very fast page. Then reuse the template with different photos and papers for an entirely new look!
